First Lesson

The initial trial lesson consists of what to expect from the lessons moving forward: the correct way to sit at the piano, how the instrument works, where and how to navigate around the piano, as well as general terms and conditions of your future lessons.

We will also discuss methods on how and what to practice in between each lesson. Recommendations for specific learning books to help with this will be given. We will cover a few basic skills, discussing your musical aspirations, both in the short and long term.

Teaching piano

We usually begin with a warm-up using scales, chord progressions or arpeggios, followed by a focus on the performance of the existing pieces being learned. Towards the end of the lesson, a review of the progress made and practical recommendations will be given.

Genre

Classical music lessons will be based on the development of aural skills, the learning of scales and arpeggios and the performance of the grade music being studied. This will cover the use of expression, articulation and interpretation of the performance music. Musicians will be encouraged to sight-read and practice regularly.

When learning jazz improvisation, the memorisation of chord scales and applying correct chord sequences will be used, concentrating on the use of creative expression over the top while using backing tracks.

Learning specific cover artists’ music, such as your favourite rock and pop, will be used, enhancing your musical journey.
